The cottage-style facade at the entrance to the cave is the first survival of the cave or chandrashala "chaitya arch", which has been an important feature of Indian sculptural Architecture and sculptural decoration for centuries. It is considered by many scholars as "the prototype of the Buddhist caves of Western Deccan, in particular the structure of the chaitya hall built between the 2nd century BC and the 2nd century CE".
