________________ Editor's Note Five mss. have been used in the preparation of the critical edition of the text of the Nighantusesakosa of Ac. Hemacandra along with the commentary of Sri Srivallabha Upadhyaya. Out of these five mss. three mss contain simply the text of the Nighankusesa while the rest contain the commentary also. The description of these five mss. is given below in due order. 1. 5 ? This ms. contains the text of the Nighantusesa and also of the commentary thereon by Sri Srivallabha Upadhyaya. It has 76 folios, 75 lines per side of the folio and 43 to 48 letters per line. It is written on a very good paper with beautiful and uniform handwritipgs. It is the best of all mss. It is almost correct. Important notes are written at various places in its margin. At the end we find no mention of its age. But we infer that its age is very near to that of the actual composition of the text. That is, it is beyond doubt that it has been written in the second half of the 17th Cent. V. S. Its size is 101" x 41". 2. This ms. too contains both the Nighantusesa and its commentary. This ms, is incomplete and ends with the first half of the 16th verse occurring in the Second Kanda. It consists of 32 folios. The script not being uniform and orderly the lines in the sides of the folios vary from 13 to 17. Each line contains 50 to 56 letters The ms. is neither very corrupt nor very correct. At some places in the margin there occur useful notes. The size of the ms. is 10" x 4". 3. This is a plam-leaf ms. It belongs to Sanghavi Pala Jnana Bhandara of Palm Leaf MSS., Patan. It contains the text of the Nighantusesa only. It has been torn, It consists of 14 folios and therein occurs the text from the 34th verse of the First Kanda up to the 140th verse of the same Kanda. It seems to have been written in the second half of the fifteenth Cent. V. S. It is almost in good condition. It is mostly correct. Its script is not bad. 4. To This ms. belonging to c.
