' રાજા મહારાજાઓની ઉદાર સહાયતા
“Most princes convoked assemblies of poets :: (Kavyagoshthi ) in their halls of discussion (Vidyavasatha ) where the works produced by authors were subjected to criticism. Sound canons of taste and. judgement were evolved in these assemblies, and here... : probably, we have the birth of our Alankara literature.
The King-president ( sabhapati) rewarded with honours and gifts those authors whose works came up to the approved standard.
Some of these assemblies became specialized in the course of time, and acquired all-India fame in particular branches of arts and sciences.' [ Indian Culture through the Ages. Vol I:

જ પ્રબંધ’ તેનું ઉત્કૃષ્ટ પ્રમાણ છે. રાજા ભોજ અને કવિ કાલિદાસનું યુગલ સાહિત્યના ઇતિહાસમાં જેમ અજોડ છે તેમ તેમની કીર્તિ જગપ્રાસદ્ધ છે. જયદેવની અષ્ટાધ્યાયીમાં લક્ષ્મણસેનના દરબારમાં વિરાજતા કવિઓની નામાવલી આપેલી છે. હર્ષનો દરબાર બાણ મયૂર વગેરે વિદર્ગથી શોભતે

' શબ્દાર્ડબરી શિવ, કૂટ કવિતા તાત્કાલિકી શિની, શ્રી ગોવર્ધન કેર વાણી વળો છે, શગાર સારે ભરી, પકાએ જયદેવની જ જગમાં સંદર્ભની માધુરી.”
