મૌર્યવંશની વંશાવલી
૨૦૫ પુરાતત્વ શોધક ઈતિહાસવેત્તા શ્રી જયસ્વાલજી કહે છે કે “જેને ગ્રંથ અને તે પછીના જેન શિલાલેખે ચંદ્રગુપ્તને જેનરાજર્ષિ તરિકે ઉલેખે છે. મારે અભ્યાસ, જૈન કથનનાં એતિહાસિક પ્રમાણને માન આપવાની મને ફરજ પાડે છે. ”
3. સમીથ પણ આ મંતવ્ય સ્વીકારી જણાવે છે કે–“આ મહાન સમ્રાટ બિંબિસાર (મહારાજા શ્રેણિક) જેવો જ જૈન હતા. જે હકીક્ત ન માનવાને કંઈ પણ કારણ નથી. નદી અને મર્યોના સમયમાં જૈનધર્મ મગધમાં પ્રતિષ્ઠા ભેગવતો હતે. વિદ્વાન બ્રાહમણ ચાણક્યની યુક્તિથી ચંદ્રગુપ્ત રાજ્ય મેળવ્યાની વાત, જેનધર્મ રાજ્યધર્મ હતું, તે માન્યતા માટે અપ્રાસંગિક નથી.”
જેને પિતાના વિધિ-વિધાનો માટે પરંપરાથી બ્રાહ્મણે રોકતા આવ્યા છે x x જે પહેલા નંદ અને પછીના નવ રાજાની સેવા કરી હતી. તેના (રાજાઓનો) ખાસ મિત્ર તરીકે (સલાહકાર ) જૈન સાધુ આલેખાયા છે. ”

The testimony of Megasthenes would likewise seem to imply that Chandragupta submitted to the devotional teaching of the Sermanes, as opposed to the doctrines of the Brahmanas.”
