MANASABA
The reading of B. D. is very corrupt. But the above lines supply & olue to a very important passage left out by the other Mss. From the contents of lines 51 to 56, the general description of the thirty-two plans outlined by thirty-two technical names in lines 2 to 50 can be followed. But all the Mss., except B. D., have left out the description of the third plan oalled atg; they do not give a full description of the second plan, called ara, either. This fact may induce one to recover the missing passage from B. D. and retain it in the text, but the passage in B. D. is hopelessly corrupt. In place of these line the Mayamata which is a summary of the Mānasara reads the following....
अथ पीठ पदे नवभागयुते दिशि दिश्यथ वेदचतुष्टयकम् ।
विदुरीशपदाधुदकं दहनं गगनं पवनं पृथिवी ह्यबहिः ॥२४॥ 60. (1) J. T&(2) J. Care: 1 (3) It is not clear whether the second half is intended to convey the sense of TGRT Fate See B. D's reading under note 59 above.
62. (1) J. 27 (2) yrgrua: does not seem to be the name of a god; the next word utda is certainly such a name. In the next two lines (63, 64) six such names are given; and in this line there must be two names to make the number eight. See note under Translation.
63. A. F. faggati 64. I.TER, A. F. qi for til B. D. omit the next four lines, 65 to 68. 65. J. FW: 1 66. J. , A. F. CARII
Between lines 68 and 69, there seem to be some line or lines missing, wherein should be described the location of war in the plan, 399to, mention of which is made in line 70.
67. I. J. सुग्रीवकं for सुप्रीवको suggested by A. F. 68. A. eta, F. 19, J. ara , I. OTET I
69. (1) I. पञ्चमन्यत्यत् । (2) A. F. शवो, I. पैशातु for वैशातु (from the north-east).
