XXIV.-KOT-SOLANKIYA INSCRIPTION OF VANAVIRA%3B
(VIKRAMA-) SAMVAT 1394. This inscription was found at Kot-solankiya, about 15 miles north-east of Desturl. It is engraved on a pillar of a Jaina temple now in ruins. I edit the inscription from two excellent estampages, kindly supplied to me by Munshi Devi Prasad, Munsiff of Jodhpur.
The record contains 8 lines of writing, which cover a space of 11" broad by 53" high. The characters are Nägari. The language is Sansksit, and the whole of the record is in prose except one verse in 11. 7-8 at the end. In respect of orthography, the only point that deserves to be noted is the doubling of a consonant in conjunction with a preceding r, in a-chandrarkkan, 1.6.
The inscription is dated Friday, the 13th of the bright half of Chaitra in the [Vikrama] year 1394 elapsed, and refers itself to the reign of the Mahārajadhiraja Sri-Vanaviradēvs. It then states that at Āsalapura, the rāuta Mülarāja, of the family of the rāuta Mālhana, grandson of the rauta Sōma and son of the riuta Bambi and his wife Jākhaladevi, granted, for the spiritual merit of his parents, Dhikuyaü together with a vādi or orchard, on the occasion, of hoisting the flag of the temple of Pārsvanāthadēva, in the presence of the rāuta Balá, Lumbha and Nimva.
