EARLIEST SEAT OF THE SENAS
1
273
The passage that Mr. Vasu quotes from the Talâ manuscript offers the following chief points for consideration :
(1) 1. 1, the word Sûrava isaappears in place of Senava isa of No. 1. (2) 1. 2, dese Kasisamipatah for Kasipurasamipatah of No. 1. (3) 1. 3, Svarnarekhapuri for Svarnarekhánadi of No. 1. (4) 1. 5, the name Kanasenaka for Vijayasenakan of No.1.
(5) After 1. 5, the two quotations differ a good deal in the subject matter, e. g. Vilolâ appears as the daughter of Kaņasena in No. 2
(6) Malla and Syåmala are məntioned in both the passages as sons of Vilola.
(7) The name "Syâmalavarma " has been spelt with a dental sibilant in No. 2.
Well, in the quotation from the Manuscript No. 2, we find it stated that Trivikrama of the Sûra dynasty had a son named Kaņasena (sic for Karnasena) by his queen MAlati: Kanasena had a daughtur called Vilola, who had two sons, namely Malla and Syâmala.
The account deduced from the Manuscript No. 1, is widely different from that derived from the Manusoript Nv. 2,-they are almost irreoonoilable. No. 1 says that Trivikrama was of the Sena family, whereas according to No. 2, he was one of Sûras of Bengal. The first manusoript indicatos that a placo near Kasipura was the seat of the Sena family, while No. 2 shows that it was the original home of tho Sûras. The genealogies given by the two manuscripts are also different, thus :No. 1.
Trivikrama (Sena)=Málati
Vijayasena=Viiola
Mallavarman
Syâmâlavarman
No. 2.
Trivikrama (Sûra]=Málati
Kanasena
Vilola (daughter)
Mallavar man
Syamalavarman
[sic for Syamalavar man)
The passage reads as follows "Trivikrama Maharja Stravansa-samudbhavah,
Asit paramadharmajño dake Kolisamipatab Svarnarekhåpurl yatra svarnayantramay subha, Svargangå salilaih pâtå sallokajanatopinj. Asau tatra mahipalo Malatyar namatah striyên. RAJAalt paramadharmajño nämna SyAmalavarmakab [sic] Jitvd sarvamahipatim bhujavalaih pañcâsyatulyo [io] vali.
Srimadvikramapura nima nagaro rdjabbanniroitam," 'Mr. Vasu understands this to mean "dynasty of herove," but I cannot agree with him. See Bharufavara, I, 31.
