वैतालिय अध्ययन अनुवाद - संसार में कई ऐसे लोग हैं जो मां बाप आदि के मोह में पड़कर संसार में भटकते हैं। मरने पर-जीवन लीला के समाप्त हो जाने पर उन्हें सद्गति प्राप्त नहीं होती । इसलिये माता पिता का मोह आदि भय है । सुव्रत-उत्तम रूप से व्रतों का पालन करने वाला पुरुष इन भयों को देखकर आरम्भ से-हिंसा से निवृत्त रहे ।
__टीका - तथा कश्चिन्मातापितृभ्यां मोहेन स्वजनस्नेहने च न धर्मम्प्रत्युद्यमं विधत्ते, स च तैरेव माता-पित्रादिभिः लुप्यते संसारे भ्राम्यते, तथाहि___ "विहितमलोहमहोमहन्मातापितृ पुत्रदार बन्धुसंज्ञम ।स्नेहमय मसुमतामदः किं बन्धनं शृङ्खलं खलेन धात्रा"?
तस्य च स्नेहा कुलितमानसस्य सदसद्विवेकविकलस्य स्वजनपोषणार्थं यत्किञ्चन कारिण इहैव सद्भिर्निन्दितस्य सुगतिरपि प्रेत्य जन्मान्तरे नो सुलभा, अपितु मातापितृव्यामोहितमनसस्तदर्थं क्लिश्यतो विषयसुखेप्सोश्च दुर्गतिरेव भवतीत्युक्तम्भवति । तदेवमेतानि भयानि भयकारणानि दुर्गतिगमनादीनि, पेहिय'त्ति प्रेक्ष्य आरम्भात् सावद्यानुष्ठानरूपाद् विरमेत् सुवतः सन् सुस्थितो वेति पाठान्तरम् ॥३॥
टीकार्थ - कोई मनुष्य माँ बाप तथा पारिवारिक जनों के स्नेह में, मोह में पड़कर धर्म के प्रति उद्यत नहीं रहता । उस दिशा में प्रयत्नशील नहीं रहता । माता-पिता आदि पारिवारिक जन उसे संसार में परिभ्रमण कराते हैं । उनके कारण वह संसार में भटकता है । अतएव कहा है-खल-दुष्ट विधाता ने जीवों को बंधन में डाले रखने हेतु माता-पिता, पुत्र पुत्री, स्त्री, बन्धु-बान्धव मूलक श्रृंखला-जंजीर की रचना की है । तथापि ये जंजीर लोहे की बनी हुई नहीं है किन्तु उससे भी कहीं ज्यादा मजबूत है । माँ बाप और कुटुम्बी जनों के मोह में पड़ा मनुष्य सत्, असत् के विवेक से रहित हो जाता है । वह अपने पारिवारिक लोगों का परिपोषण करने हेतु निम्न से निम्न कार्य करने को उतारु हो जाता है । अतः इस लोक में सज्जन पुरुषों द्वारा वह निदिंत होता है-सजन-सद्धर्मानुरागी पुरुषों की दृष्टि में उसकी प्रतिष्ठा नहीं रहती । परलोक में भी वह सद्गतिउत्तम गति नहीं पाता । अभिप्राय यह है कि माँ बाप आदि कुटुम्बीजनों के मोह में जो ग्रस्त रहता है, वैषयिक सुखों की अभिप्सा लिये रहता है तथा स्वजनों के लिये-उनके सुख के लिये तरह तरह के कष्ट झेलता है। वह दुर्गति को प्राप्त करता है । सुव्रत-सुष्टुव्रत युक्त पुरुष इस प्रकार दुर्गति आदि भयोत्पादक कारणों को देखता हुआ आरम्भ-हिंसा आदि से निवृत्त रहे-दूर रहें ।
जमिणं जगती पुढो जगा, कम्मेहिं लुप्पंति पाणिणो ।
समयेव कडेहिं गाहइ, णो तस्स मुच्चेजऽपुट्ठयं ॥४॥ छाया - यदिदं जगति पृथजगाः, कर्मभिलृप्यन्ते प्राणिनः ।
स्वयमेन कृतै गार्हते, नो तस्य मुच्येदस्पष्टः ॥ अनुवाद - इस संसार में जो प्राणी सावद्य-सपाप कर्मों के आचरण का त्याग नहीं करते, उनकी बड़ी दुर्वस्था होती है । पृथक् पृथक स्थानों में, योनियों में निवास करने वाले प्राणी अपने द्वारा कृत कर्मों के फल भोग हेतु नरक आदि यातनामय स्थानों में जाते हैं । वे अपने कर्मों का फल भोग बिना वहां से छूट नहीं सकते।

Thus, these are the fears, the causes of fear, and the paths to bad destinies. A man who is virtuous, seeing these, should abstain from all wrong conduct from the beginning, and remain steadfast.
