In 1727 Shaikh Fakhruddin a later ancestor of of the Shaikh Saheb secured the independance of Mangrol from the Imperial throne and set up an oligarchy in Mangrol. Twenty two years later Shaikh Mia the power of whose sword and political sagacity is well known in Kathiawar proclaimed himself the first Shaikh of Mangrol. Mangrol therefore is the most senior Mohamedan State in Kathiawar.
The present Shaikh is the sixth successor and fifth descendant of the famous Shaikh Mia, who founded the Mangrol principality.
Shaikh Jehangeer Mia was born in 1860 and is at present 53 years of age. He succeeded his brother Shaikh Husain Mia Saheb who died issueless ir 1908. Joining the Rajkumar College in 1.872 whic) fact secured of him to-day the honour of being on of the few old Rajkumar College old boys in Kathia war. He completed his College education somewher in 1880. His brilliancy in the College and ancien name of the family secured for him the single honou of being selected by H. E. Lord Reay's Governmer as the first Mollamedan in the statutary civil servic in Bombay Presidency.
He was an assistant collector at Almedabad an passed his departmental examination with credi His experience of Revenue and Judicial work whi in service has made him a ruler, the like of who is not often seen in Native States in India.
