COMMENTARY--SUMMARY TRANSLATION Externally, moving in the mid-air which is the Universe, he roars with thunder. In the vast sky, it is he that makes excellent sound; or, he lives in the sky, echoing the excellent indivisible and elemental sound. Internally, he expresses, through Prana, all the knowledge he has. He is Indra, the lord of mid-air. He rules here with the Maruts.
पञ्चमी ऋक् । यो नः परो यो दृष्टा न सन्दशेऽभूद यः सुसन्डक् परमो विश्वदर्शतः ॥ सेन्द्रो मरुत्वान् राजतीह स मध्यमः
स उत्तम ज्योतिर्विश्वस्य दर्शयत् ॥५॥ पदपाठः- यः। नः। परः। यः। द्रष्टा । न । सम्ऽदृशै । अभूत् ।
यः। सुऽसन्दृक् । परमः। विश्वऽदर्शतः ॥ सः। इन्द्रः। मरुत्वान् । राजति । इह । सः । मध्यमः ।
सः। उत्ऽतमं । ज्योतिः। विश्वस्य । दर्शयत् ।। He is beyond us. He is the seer but himself unseen. He is the best seer as he sees all and everything and he is worthy of being seen. Indra with Maruts rules here and is the lord of mid-air. He is the light par-excellence and illuminates all and everything.
अन्वयभाष्यम्। यः खलु नः अस्माकं परः अस्मभ्यं श्रेष्ठः, यश्च अस्माकं सबाहयाभ्यन्तरः द्रष्टा विश्वसाक्षी न सन्दशे अभूत् द्रष्ठं दृष्टिगोचरो न भवति, यश्च पुनः सुसन्द्वक् सम्यग् द्रष्टतमः परमः सर्वेभ्यः विश्वदर्शतः सर्वेषामपि दर्शनीयः सर्वैरपि द्रष्टं योग्यः साक्षात्कारार्हः सर्वद्रष्टेति अनुभावास्पदीभूतः इति भावः ॥ “ सुसन्दृशं त्वा वयं मघवन् वन्दिषीमहि " ( ऋ. मं. १-८२-३ ) इति तदनुश्रवणम् । स: मध्यमलोकाधिपति: मरुत्वान् इन्द्र एव पारमैश्वर्यपूर्णत्वात् उत्तमं सर्वेभ्यः श्रेष्ठतमं ज्योतिः विश्वस्य दर्शयत् प्रकाशकं भवति, तत्परञ्ज्योतिःस्वरूप एव इन्द्रः इति ॥
