छन्दोदर्शनम् चत्वारि ता पदान्यात्मन् यो दधेऽन्त
स्तपसा धीभिः पुरुषं तं प्रपद्ये ॥ ११ ॥ पदपाठः - अग्निना । इन्द्रेण । सवित्रा । आत्मना । तेजसा ।
अतऽभिः । अन्नैः । वाचा । प्राणेन । मनसा । चित्त्या ।। चत्वारिं'। ता । पदानि । आत्मन् । यः । दधे | अन्तरिति । तपसा । धीभिः । पुरुषम् । तम् । प्र । पद्ये ।।
With the help of the gods, Agni, Indra, Savita and Atma and in the form of light, waters, food and speech, as also vital airs, mind and conscious energy he planted his four feet in the soul of beings. I attain the Purusha by means of meditation and thought power.
अन्वयभाष्यम्। भौमेन अग्निना अधिदैवतेन, तेजसा अधिभूतेन वाचा तेजोमय्या अध्यात्मसत्त्वया, तथा अन्तरिक्षण इन्द्रेण दैवतेन, अद्भिः भौतिकाभिः रसमयीभिः प्राणसत्त्वाभिः, तथा आपोमयैः प्राणैः अध्यात्मकः, सवित्रा दिव्येन अन्नैः भौतिकै: मनसत्त्वैः, मनसा अन्नमयेन अध्यात्मकेन भावनासत्त्वेन, एवं त्रिवृदितैः त्रिभिः धातुसत्त्वैः प्रत्येकशः त्रिवृत्कृतैः सह आत्मना-चिता चेतनया तुरीयया यः सवर्षी प्राणभृतां शरीरिणां अन्त: आत्मन् आत्मनि शारीरके जीवात्मनि ता तानि चत्वारि पदानि दधे स्थापयामास, धीभिः ताभिरेव एताभिः त्रिकरणात्मिकाभिः वाक्-प्राण-मनोरूपाभिः सचेतनाभिः त्रिवृदिताभिः सह समुदितेन धीयोगेन तपसा वाक्-प्राण-मनःसंयमेन तत्संशितेन शुद्धसत्त्वेन तं परमं पुरुषं अपरोक्षतः प्राप्नोमि साक्षात्करोमीति ||
COMMENTARY-SUMMARY TRANSLATION He planted his four feet in the inner heart of all beings with the help of Agni of this earth, who is the presiding deity (Adhidaiva ), with the help of light which is elemental (Adhibhāta ), with the help of Vak, which is full of light (Adhyatma), then again with the help of Indra of mid-air (Adhidaiva), with the help of waters (Adhibhata), with the help of Prana, full of liquids (Adhyatma); then again with the help of Savitā the celestial one (Adhidaiva), with the help of food composed of the elements (Adhibhata), with the help of Manas-which is born of food (Adhyatma); with the help of these supporting elements made triple, and with the help of the soul full of
