'y' by Kṛṣṇa Kavi. One of these MSS. is No. 551 of 188487 in the Govt. MSS. Library at the Bhandarkar O. R. Institute, Poona. It appears to be a work dealing with Vedic metres by fa' as stated in the colophon of the MS. The MS. represents the first chapter called 'प्रथम: गुम्फ' of the 'वृत्तमुक्तावली'.
There is another MS. of the 'वृत्तमुक्तावली' by 'श्रीकृष्णकत्रि', viz. No. 487 of 1899-1915 in the Govt. MSS. Library. This MS. was not known to Aufrecht and it is important as it seems to represent the second chapter (fata: :') of this work, judging by the identity of the names of the authors, titles and names of divisions of the two works, viz. श्रीकृष्ण कवि, वृत्तमुक्तावली and गुम्फ respectively occurring in both the MSS. The first MS. furnishes no historical information about its author or his patron and hence it may be left out of our consideration for the present".
I should hasten to add here that the second manuscript referred to here represents not only the 2nd but also the 3rd chapter of the book. These MSS. were made available from the Govt. MSS. Library, Poona to the editor (Bhatt Mathuranath Shastri) by late Shri Hari Narain Purohit, B.A. of Jaipur. It was a pleasant discovery for him (the editor) as in his ancestral records there was no trace of this book on metrics written by Krishna Kavi, his own forefather. The MS. which had many transcriptional errors was copied by the editor himself who amended the readings of the manuscript and presented it for publication before the Rajasthan Oriental Research Institute.
By bringing to light this work of an eminent Sanskrit scholar of Rajasthan, the Rajasthan Oriental Research Institute and its learned Director have made all the scholars of Indology indebted to them.
1 Another book on metrics entitled
(in Vraj Bhasha) is reported to have been found with a Chaturvedi family of Mathura by Dr. Shyam Sunder Das (Vide his Report).
