The Jaina monks do not preach the digging of wells and ponds for making the drinking water available for the thirsty human and subhuman beings (like animals, and birds) as it involves destruction of innumerable one-sensed creatures of the earthbodies etc, and at times even those of the higher order, and serves the needs of only a few humans, animals and birds. It is argued that there is no compassion in destroying so many creatures for the benefit of so few.
