who wandered from one place to other in search of some livlihood.
(v) Karpatika Sartha -
This Sartha comprised of monks and nuns who travelled from place to place for being food (bhikkhayara), prea-ching and visiting different parts of the country. The Brihat Kalpa Sutra Bhasya gives a good account of the journey performed by the traders, monks and nuns. Generally the monks did not favour the company of traders because they (the monks) could not get freedom to move and stay at different places as and when they wanted. Yet they had to join the company of the caravan of merchants safety and convenience. 15
