In the eight chapters of Jajuism in Gujarat. prof Chimanlal Bhailal Sherh traces the growth of Jainism in Gujarat for five centuries from 1100 A. D. to 3600 A. D. The author has derived his materials from authori. tativae primary and secoudary Sources and he has ably established his thesis that Jainism was in a flourishing Condition in Gujarat during the period under review, receiving the patronagc of the rules of Gujarat, their ministers, and the leading citizens of the state, merchant princes, ladies of the airstocracy and the generous public.
The book thr ws interesting light on the political and cultural history of Gujarat during the ascendancy of Jainism. Jainism was so deeply rooted in the heart of the people that even political disruptions could not disturb the fuil vigour of the religion. It not only survived the onslaught of Alauddin Khilji, emper or of Delhi but it also spread in and around Delhi and the Jain monks and scholars werc honoured by Akbar The great, Moghul Emperor.
