About the Work
Umäsväti's most famous work is the Tattvärthadhigama-Sutra. It is recognised as an authority by both Svetambaras and Digambaras. His Prasamarati-Prakaraṇa, "Treatise on the Joys of Peace of the Soul", 'is a religious philosophical work, also possessing literary merit.' It briefly yet lucidly deals with, among other things, the duties of a householder and of a monk, the 12 Bhāvanās, 14 Guṇasthānas, the Six Substances, the Nine Concepts of Reality, Saptabhangi and the way to Mokṣa.
The translator has felt this book to be an excellent exposition of the Eternal Philosophy, a philosophy which ultimately leads man to true and Eternal Happiness within oneself.
