Man has always admired the charm of nature around him. He has tried to emulate the works of nature in his artistic creation. Even from the tribal stage man has experienced the softening influence of nature. The earliest paintings of the prehistoric date are found in caves all over the world. Man had an observant eye and the trained hand even at the primitive stage. "The colours chosen, the movement portrayed and the expression suffused in the pictures are really marvellous things. These paintings give us a picture of life in those faroff days. The fine arts were cultivated as a pastime and painting being an easier medium than modelling and sculpture was more readily preferred. The nagaraka or a cultivated man was expected to have a good collection of pictures in his house. He should have had a painting board and a casket full of brushes. In short Fine Arts created a joy and filled anyone's life with mirth and merriment.
