THE SANSKRIT MANUSCRIPTS.
129
Begins on fol. la. This codex contains also Khadiragrhyasatrabhāsyam (fol. 91a). ___This is a copy made in 1896 from an injured MS. of the Library noticed below.
This is a commentary on the Mantra portion of the Upanişad Brahmana, by the well-known Sayanticārya. It is said in the beginning that, at the request of king Bukka, Sāyaṇa conimeated upon the Rg Vēda, the Yajur Vēda, and the Samhitā portion of the Sāma Vēda, and that he then proceeded to comment on the Brāhmaṇas of the Sáma Vēda, which are all enumerated in the beginning of this commentary.
The Mantrakbanda forms one of the two parts of the Upanişad Brāhmaṇa, the other part being the Chandögyöpanişad. It is called Mantrakhanda as it contains the Mantras or hymns which are recited in connection with marriages and other ceremonies among the Bāmavēding. Beginning:
