The peculiarity of this commentary is that it interprets the word जातवेदस् to mean the GodiVisnu instead of Agni, the God of Fire, and that it quotes authoritics from Vēdas, Smrtis and Purāsas in support of the interpretation; I have therefore given a long extract to show fully the nature of the work. In this matter of interpretation it is only a type of the Vaişņavite commentaries which always interpret the names of gods to mean Vişņu whenever it is convenient to do so.
Beginning:
यामाहुः श्रुतयः सर्वाः पुप्रधानेश्वरेश्वरोम् । अशेषलोकजननी लक्ष्मी कमलवासिनीम् ॥ यत्पादाम्भोजघटिता प्रणति? भान्यपि । पदानि परमां मुक्ति सूते तां श्रियमाश्रये ॥ श्रियस्सूक्तमधीतं यत् सुजपं मङ्गलावहम् ।
अशरण्यशरण्यं तद्व्याकुर्मों भोगमोक्षदम् ॥ . . . तत्र तावत् श्रुतयः । अहासूक्ते श्रद्धया देवो देवत्वमनुते । श्रद्धा प्रतिष्ठा लोकस्य देवी . . . . सर्वपुरुपार्थसाधकवं श्रुतम् । तस्मादवश्यं सूक्तादीनामर्थज्ञानं सम्यगादरणीयम्। तज्ज्ञानार्थमिदमपि सूक्तं व्याकुर्महे । श्रीसूक्तं व्याख्यास्यते ।
ओं ॥ हिरण्यवर्णां . . . . ममावह ॥ सर्वेश्वरी लक्ष्मीक्षिपदायिनी । आद्ययावाह्यते देवी श्रीनिवासाद्वरिप्रिया ॥ हिरण्यवर्णामित्यादि हे जातवेदः लक्ष्मीपते स्वतः सिद्धो वेदः धनं वा ज्ञानं वा यशो वा यस्य स जातवेदः स्वतःसिद्धं सर्वज्ञवं
