ADDITIONS Footnote no. १ on page १ should read :
“The standard form of the last four syllables of pādas a and c is not iambic but U--u. The form of pada a, --0-, UUU —, is used by standard writers of Kavya, but that of pāda 6, ---U-, --- U ---, is not used by strict writers, though it is common enough in the Epics and the Purānas.
The standard form of the last four syllables in a, b, c, and d is laid down in the following stanza of Srutabodha, attributed to a Kālidāsa :
श्लोके षष्ठं गुरु ज्ञेयं सर्वत्र लघु पञ्चमम् । द्विचतुःपादयोर्हस्वं सप्तमं दीर्घमन्ययोः ॥१०॥
But, as a matter of fact, the śloka metre has not been satisfactorily dealt with, by treatises on prosody. Really speaking, Footnote no. १ is unnecessary.
