( 22 ) In Dr. Raja's edition, the first verse is not numbered. No reason is given for leaving the first verse without any number. As the first verse is, everywhere, left without a number, the number assigned to each and every verse is wrong. The greater part of the second hemistich of stanza no. 25, which should really be no. 26, is missing. But a few words of the third pāda are read by mss. Dr. Raja has omitted even these few words in his edition on p. 3. After the 25th stanza, there are four more stanzas. which are omitted by Dr. Raja, without giving any reason for the omission. Wrong references and other errors of omission and commission are pointed out in my footnotes. Various readings are given in Appendix I and Notes in Appendix II. The separation of the text itself from these Appendices makes the distribution rather inconvenient from the practical point of view. Dr. Raja does not mark accent on Vedic passages, quoted by Venkața Mādhava in his introductory remarks.
I have used Dr. Raja's edition of the Rgvedabhāsya of Skandasvāmin to compare Venkata Mādhava’s exegesis of Vedic words with that of the former. Dr. Raja deserves all credit for publishing the Editio Princeps of the bhāsya of Skandasvāmin on the whole of the first Aștaka. His edition must however be used with caution as the number of misprints is unusually large. The list of corrections at the end covers 22 pages in print. This long list however corrects a few misprints only. There are numerous misprints which have been left uncorrected. I give below a list of misprints of a few pages only. These are ignored in the Errata.
