Palmistry as a system of predicting future has found place in ancient Indian wisdom as well, and a small text dealing with palmistry, the Karalakkhanam, is being published here by the Bharatiya Jnanapitha, Benares. The Prakrit text is accompanied by Sanskrit Chaya and Hindi paraphrase : and all this is presented to us in a neat manner by the editor, Shri Prafulla Kumar Modi. Mr.Modi is an intelligent young scholar; and this edition augurs well of his potential abilities. Trained as he is under his father, Professor Dr.Hiralal Jain, it is expected that he would soon give us more and more of his researches in Prakrit and Sanskrit literature.
It is with the noble object of making known to the world the manifold aspects of ancient Indian culture and civilization that the Bharatiya Jnanapitha has been established by Shri Shantiprasad Jain. His zeal and generosity are worthily matched by the keen interest which his wife Shrimati Rama Rani takes in the publications of the Institution. Both of them deserve our best thanks. We have every hope that this Institution under the enthusiastic management of Nyayacharya Pt. Mahendra Kumar Shastri will bring out many worthy publications with the active cooperation of various scholars and make thereby the cultural heritage of our nation all the more rich.
