GENERAL EDITORIAL
As I look back on our associations over the last thirtyfive years, I can see how my friend and colleague, Dr. A. N. Upadhye, now Professor of Jainology and Prakrits in the University of Mysore, is inspired by one academic objective, namely, to bring to light unpublished works in Sanskrit, Prakrit and Apabhraṁśa and put them and their authors, by his studies, in their proper perspective in our literature. He was associated with me in the publication of Dhavală; and later, both of us brought out the editions of the Tiloyapannatti, Parts I & II (Sholapur 1943 & 1951) and Jambūdīva-pannatti-samgaho (Sholapur 1957). He has a number of such publications to his credit; to mention some: Varangacarita of JaţaSimhanandi (Bombay 1938); Kamsavaho and Usāņiruddham of Rama Pāņivada (Bombay 1940-41 ); BṛhatKathakośa of Hariṣena ( Bombay 1943 ); Candralekha of Rudradāsa (Bombay 1945); Līlāvaī of Kutuhala (Bombay 1949 ); Anandasundarī of Ghanaśyāma ( Delhi 1955 ); Kuvalayamala of Uddyotana Parts I-II (Bombay 1959 and 1970); Vilasavaī-kahā (partly, Kolhapur 1970 ); etc.
I had lent Dr. Upadhye my transcript of the GitaVitaraga as early as 1939; and whenever we met, we discussed about its publication. When I read the summary of it given by him in his paper published in the Journal of Shivaji University, Kolhapur, I wondered at the rich biography of Vṛṣabhanatha the poem contained. I
