Taalatia:
B: A printed edition of the text with Bhāvārtha in Kannada brought out by D. Padmanabha Sharma, published by H. C. Nagaraj, Bangalore 1965. The Sanskrit text is rather indifferently printed in Kannada script.
2. Text-Constitution The text of GV, in this edition, is carefully constituted after studying the Mss, material described above. All these Mss. bristle with scribal errors and slips which are ignored. Sometime the Voc. deva etc. are written as devă; in the Kannada Mss. 1 is usually written for l; distinction between cerebral and dental n is not maintained; in some cases long and short vowels are not clearly marked out; and the sibilants s, ş and s are not always distinguished. There are minor differences in the colophons. All the Mss. do not give the Rāga etc. of the Aştapadi :H simply writes rägaḥ; A, Mand S some time mention it; B gives it but often differs from the rest. One cannot say what Rága the author himself gave for a certain Aştapadī; these readings, therefore, have been relegated to the foot-notes. Then a few important variants are given. The text and the Kannada commentary in A have different readings. This is rather strange. Some of them are noted. At the close of some chapters there are salutations to some Tîrthakara etc. They are ignored, because they are not found in all the sources.
The readings of Astapadīs have presented a special difficulty to the Editor who is not sure of their metrical patterns and who is quite ignorant about Rágas. His text of the Asýpadts should be treated as tentative.
