with the commentary by Rāmavijaya. Substance : Country-made paper. 10x4 inches. Folia 49. Lines, 17 on a page. Extent in ślokas, 2000. Character, Jaina Nāgari. Appearance, discoloured. Complete.
Guņamālā is a Jaina work on the moral qualities and intellectual attainments, necessary for the ācārya, the upādhyāya, the sādhu, the parameşți and the śrāvaka. It gives also stories in illustration and enumerate things which are to be discarded.
Though a Prāksta work, it makes mangalācarana in Sanskrit. The mahgalācaraṇa of the text
Then begins the comm.
The text has four verses of mangalācaraņa. In 6B we get the gāthās which enumerate the guņas of the Acārya. The first of them which is really the beginning of the text, runs thus
The accompanying commentary is an exhaustive one. In the course of explaining the 33rd guņa, namely an intimate knowledge of all the Jaina and the other samayas, it fully notices all the different systems of philosophy notably that of the Bauddhas. It places Sāökhya among the systems which recognize God as a Tattva, and mentions Bphaspati as first propounder of a Godless system of philosophy.
In dealing with the Upadhyāya who should be qualified adequately to teach the scriptures, this commentary presents an excellent review of the Aågasūtras.
