________________ Shri Mahavir Jain Aradhana Kendra www.kobatirth.org Acharya Shri Kailassagarsuri Gyanmandir ( 107 ) A collection of devotional Vaisnava songs with different musical notes is chiefly based on the various incidents of the life of Krsna. Sankaradeva was one of the celebrated Vaisnava poets of the 15th century. Just like Caitanya he wanted to propagate his new faith, and for this he translated many books from Sanskrit into Assamese and composed many Vaisnava songs, lyrics and others. He was born in Alipukhuri in Nowgong in 1449 A.D., and died in Cooch Behar in 1569. Of his religious books, Kirtana and Däsanāma are important. The MS. is presented by Lieut. Neuluive on 25th Jan., 1825. Along with the MS., he forwards a box to the Society containing a series of writings on leaf which is said to be of a religious and sacred nature and which was found by him in Assam.
