Texts (Vol. I, Calcutta, 1913, pp. 35–40) gives, in the last colophon, Mahīdhara as the name of the author, though the last verse gives the name as Mahīdāsa.

A colophon after verse 53 attributes the work to Mahidhara:
इति श्रीमहौधरविरचितं माटकानिघंटं संपूर्णम् । The verse attributing the work to Mahīdāsa is not found here.
After verse 58, two verses about yantras are found, apparently not belonging to this work. After this the date of copying is given :
सम्बत् १८८९ शकाब्दा १७५४ आषाढ कृष्ण ३० गुरौ॥ श्रीविश्वेश्वरो जयति ॥
