The Ms. is partly worm-eaten . It contains Hārita's interpretation of the mantra - "ओं नमो भगवते वासुदेवाय", which is composed of 12 twelve syllables, for which the work is so called. This is also a supplement to the Hārita-smrti. Beginning :
हारीत उवाच -
अथ वक्ष्यामि माहात्म्यं द्वादशार्णस्य पार्थिव । यस्योच्चारणमात्रेण द्वादशाक्षरसंभवम् ॥
द्वादशार्णमनोरेवं विधानं प्रोच्यते नृप ॥१०॥
इति श्रीहारीतस्मृतौ द्वादशार्णमन्त्रस्योद्धारं तृतीयावरण संपूर्णम् ।
