Indologists are now agreed that there are several recensions of the Mahabharata, the most important being the Northern and the Southern Recensions. All the above printed editions may generally be said to favour the Northern Recension. A critical Edition of the Southern Recension, based entirely on manus cript material is now being published at Madras.1 The
