Remarks:--The Ms. is in good condition.
Sarabboji, the author of this poem, dealing with the story of the Ramayana was the third of the Mabaratta rulers of Tanjore. He was the son of Ekaji and brother Sábaji and he ascended the throne after his brother in 1711 A. D.
There seems to be some doubt regarding the royal authorship of this work. Dr. Aufrecht raised the doubt but we do not know on what grounds he did it. He probably thought that a busy king and politician could not have found the time necessary to compose literary works. It is hardly necessary to point out that Royal authors were not wanting in India. However, in the present instance, we find a colopbon at the end of the second sarga to the effect
इति पञ्चरत्नकविकृतौ राघवचरिते द्वितीयः सर्गः which leads colour to the supposition that Sarabhoji was not the author but the work was fathered upon bim by the post Pancaratnakavi. Anantanārāyaṇa, one of the court poets of Sarabhoji, was known as Pañcaratnakavi and it is very likely that he was the author of this work also.
