sūtra. This belongs to the Rg-Veda ard Āśvalāyana is the reputed author of the Srautasūtra, which forms a portiom of the Ābvaláyanakalpasūtra. Āśvalāyana is supposed to be the author of the 4th and 6th āraṇyakas of the Aitareya Āraṇyaka. This may perhaps suggest the reason regarding the close affinity between the Aran. yaka and the Srautasūtras. Both in the Bibliotheca Indica and the Anandaśarma Sanskrit Series this work has been published.
SANKHĀYANASRAUTASŪTRA. This is another Srautasūtra belonging to the Rg-Veda. (No. 1958.) The work has been edited by Dr. Alfred Hillebrandt in the Bibliotheca Indica. Its relation to the Sāåkhāyana Āraṇyaka has been referred to above.
DRĀHYĀYANASRAUTASŪTRA.
Nos. 1959-1963 describe this Srautasütra, which belongs to the Sāma Veda. This too has been printed in the Bibliotheca Indica. The Tāņdyabrāhmaṇa is the Vedic work upon which this is based to a large extent.
ĀPAS'TAMBAŚRAUTASUTRA.
This sūtra is described in Nos. 1971-1984. This būtra belongs to the Taittiriyaśākhā of the Kpopayajurveda. Dr. Oldenberg, in his introduction to the translation of the Āpastambadharmasūtras has fully discussed the date of Āpastamba He comes to the conclusion that he should have flourished prior to the Christian era.
