Veda are first noticed; then come those belonging to Sāmaveda and Yajur-Veda, respectively.
VOLUME V. Volume V describes in detail the manuscripts on Srauta Prayoga, numbering 420. (Nos. 2357--2776). The Volume begins with the description of the seven Soma Samsthas (i.e.,) Agniętoma, Atyagnistoma Ukthya, Atirātra, Sodasi, Aptoryāma and Vājapeya. The manuscripts dealing with each of these samsthás completely are first described in detail. At the end of each complete saņsthi, the manuscripts dealing with the prayoga relating to individual Rtviks are described.
The manuscripts described belong to the three schools of Ābvalāyana, Āpastamba and Bodhāyana.
Independent works on Srauta, dealing with the various schools find a place next to the manuscripts dealing with the prayoga relating to individual Rtviks. These are followed by the description of certain metrical works, technically called Srauta Kārikās. They summarise the procedure to be adopted in the performance of the various sacrifices.
Manuscripts dealing with the expiatory ceremonies (Prāyatcittas) are dealt with next. Most of these expiatory ceremonies are, it may be observed, in the form of iştis. Other miscellaneous işti-prayogas are described in detail after the prayaścittas. The volume concludes with the description of the manuscripts dealing with the various Sastras.
It is proposed to reserve the notices of the M88. on Gphya sütras, Bhāgyas and prayogas, Dharma Sūtras, bhāgyas and prayogas, Dharmaśāstra, Itihāsa and Purana to a future occasion
