In the Descriptive Catalogue each Ms. is described in detail. In dealing with each Ms, a reference to Dr. Burnell's catalogue wherever traceable is first given. As regards the Mss. that have been added subsequent to Dr. Burnell's time, the name of the donor or collection is also given by appropriate symbols. The 'Substance' on which the work is written, the 'size' of the Ma., the number of 'sheets or leaves' of the Ms., the number of lines on a page, the 'script' used, the number of granthas' and the name of the 'author' wherever known are then given. Next follows the description of the M8. as 'complete' or 'incomplete'; but this completeness or incompleteness of a Ms. is to be understood relatively in so far as the M88. on Vedic Literature (Sambitās, Brābmagas and Aranyakas) are concerned, and is de-limited by the information given under the Heading “subject' which follows later on. After this the Beginning', the 'End and the 'Colophon' and the 'Subject' with regard to each Ms. are given in detail. Any other useful information regarding each Ms. such as, whether printed or not, the date of the Ms, if any, the condition of the M6. are all given under the last heading 'Remarks'.
VOLUME V.
The Fifth Volume will deal with Vediiga-Kalpa-Srautaprayoga and a part of Ghya noticing about 500 M88.
It is proposed to reserve the notices of the M86. on Grhya prayogas, Dharma ( Sūtras, bhágyas and prayogas), Dharınabästra, Itihäsa and Puríņa to a future occasion when a second instalment of Government Grant for the publication of the continuation of the Descriptive Catalogue is sanctioned.
