This work treats of the marriage of Mīnākṣī, the daughter of Kulabēkbara or Malayadhvaja, the first known king of the Pandya country, with God Śiva. Kulasēkhara at first reigned in Kalyanapuri which was the ancient capital of tbe country. God Siva appeared to him ip his dream and told him that the God was staying in a temple which was situated in a wilderness to the west of the oity and that he sbould make that place as his capital and worship the God. The king carried out the command of the God; and the new place became his capital and was named Madura. The whole story of the poem was taken from the Halāsyamahatmya. The author was called Kandukūri Nāganatha and appears to have been a Telugu Brahman. Beginning:
