Begins on fol. 43a of the MS. described under No. 3237. Complete, as laid down by Saunaka in the Brahmāņdapurāņa.
Deals with the Vrata which consists in investing the Asvattha tree with the sacred thread in the course of the eighth or eleventh year after it has been planted. The observance of the Vrata is considered to have the power of bestowing on one long life and prosperity, and of leading one to the attainment of salvation. Beginning: अश्वत्थोपनयनविधिरुच्यते
शौनकोऽहं प्रवक्ष्यामि अश्वत्थस्योपनायनम् । स्थापनादष्टमे वर्षे वयस्येकादशेऽपि वा ।। उक्तः कल्पस्तथा सद्भिः कुर्यात्तस्योपनायनम् ।
तत्रोत्तरायणे श्रेष्ठं गुरुशुक्रप्रकाशिते ॥ End:
अन्येभ्यो दक्षिणां दद्यात्स्ववित्तस्यानुसारतः । ब्राह्मणान् भोजयेदष्टौ भुञ्जीयाद्वन्धुभिः सह ॥ एवं यः कुरुते तस्य वर्धमाने धनायुषी ।
कुलकोटि समुद्धृत्य विष्णोः सायुज्यमानुयात् ॥ Colophon:
इति श्रीब्रह्माण्डपुराणे अश्वत्थोपनयनविधिः ॥
