THE SANSKRIT MANUSCRIPTS. 5233 अष्टोत्तरशतैः पूर्या नारी प्रदक्षिणन्तथा । सप्तजन्मकृतं पापं तत्क्षणेन विनश्यति ॥ दमयन्त्या नलप्राप्त्यै कृतं व्रतमिदं शुभम् । ये पठन्ति तमाख्यानं शृण्वन्ति श्रद्धयान्विताः ॥ ते सर्वे पापनिर्मुक्ता यान्ति चैव शुभाङ्गतिम् ।
ये कुर्वन्ति नरास्सम्यक् प्राप्नुवन्त्यखिलं शुभम् ।। Colophon:

A Puranic tale illustrating the importance of the Vrata. This Vrata consists in the worship of Śiva anPārvati and is generally observed on the seventh day of the dark and bright fortnights. The most important of the details connected with it is the tying round the arm of a gold ornamental band which should never be removed. The observance of this Vrata is considered to have the power of removing barrenness in women. This is usually observed for a period of 12 years. Begininng:
यद्वाप्यमुक्ताभरणसप्तमीव्रतमुत्तमम् ।
कुर्याद्वन्ध्यात्वनाशाय भविष्योत्तरभाषितम् ।। श्रीकृष्ण उवाच
रामशो नाम ब्रह्मर्षिः मधुरामागतः पुरा। . सोऽर्चितो वासुदेवेन देवक्या च युधिष्ठिर ।।
