This Vrata consists in the worship of Siva as soon as the sun enters the sign Capricornus. A lamp containing three Kuduvas of ghee, prepared from cow's milk, and lit with a stout wick weighing three Palas should be used at the time of the worship. This Vrata is considered to have the power of bestowing all prog. perity. Beginning: श्रीकृष्ण उवाच----
कैलासशिखरारूढं देवदेवमपस्थितम् । पार्वती परिपप्रच्छ सखीभिः पर्युवाच (पास्य) सा ॥
धनुस्सन्त्यज्य मकरं याते सति दिवाकरे । तदा कुर्यात्प्रयत्नेन सौभाग्यफलकाया । संस्थाप्य मृन्मयं पात्रं मत्पुरस्तात्समर्पयेत् । विप्रं नियोज्य पूजार्थमाचार्य वेदपारगम् ।। कुडुबत्रयमानेन गवाज्येन सुशोभितम् । दीप प्रज्वलितं कृत्वा प्थूलवाई विभिः पलैः ॥ (तस्मात्सर्वप्र) यत्नेन व्रतं सौभाग्यदायकम् । कर्तव्यं धर्मपत्नीभिरित्थं वै पाण्डुनन्दन । अस्मिन् व्रते समावृत्ते भवन्तश्विरजीविनः ।
