Beginning: नारद उवाच
यदेतदखिलं प्रोक्तं व्रतानामुत्तमं व्रतम् । कर्तव्यं कार्तिके मासे प्रयत्नाद्भीष्मपञ्चकम् ॥ विधानं तस्य विस्पष्टं फलञ्च सुरसत्तम । कथयस्व मयि प्रीत्या मुनीनां हितकाम्यया ।
अतो व्रतं प्रयत्नेन कर्तव्यं भीष्मपञ्चकम् । कार्तिकस्यामले पक्षे स्नात्वा सम्यग्यतव्रतः ।। एकादश्यान्तु गृहिणी व्रतं पञ्चदिनात्मकम् । प्रातः सात्वा विधानेन मध्याह्ने च यथा व्रती ।।
End:
एवं समाचरेत्सम्यक् यथोक्तं व्रतमुत्तमम् । सर्वपापहरं पुण्यं प्रख्यातं भीष्मपञ्चकम् ।। जन्मप्रभृति यत्पापं त्यक्त्वा पुण्यमवाप्नुयात् ।
तत्फलं समवाप्नोति कृत्वैकं भीष्मपञ्चकम् ।। Colophon:
