SÜRYAŞTAKŞARAMANTRAḤ.
This Mantra consists of eight syllables, and is taken from the 15th Anuvāka in the 6th Prapathaka of the Taittirīya Aranyaka. The syllable Om, occurring both in the beginning and in the end, is not to be taken as forming part of the Mantra proper.
ओं घृणिस्सूर्य आदित्य ओं इति प्राणायामः १२ ।

अस्य श्रीसूर्याष्टाक्षरमन्त्रस्य कौशिक ऋषिः, देवभाग ऋषिर्वा, गायत्री छन्दः, सूर्यो देवता, सूर्यप्रेरणया सूर्यप्रीत्यर्थे जपे विनियोगः ।
End :
सूर्यप्रेरणया सूर्यप्रीत्यर्थं सूर्यमहामन्त्र जपङ्करिष्ये । ओं घृणिस्सूर्य आदित्यः ओं इति जपः । उपसंहारः पूर्ववत् ॥
