This gives an account of the shrine of Bhāvanārāyaṇa at Sarpa pura and describes the sanctity of the sacred waters attached to it. The Sarpapuraksētra is said to be situated on the eastern bank of the Gödāvarī, to the west of the sea and to the east of the Tulyabhāga. It is probably what is now known as Sarpavaram in the Gödāvari Distriot of the Madras Presidency. Beginning:
अम्बरीषःश्रीमत्सर्पपुरक्षेत्रमाहात्म्यं कथयस्व मे । कुतस्सर्पपुराख्यानं क्षेत्रस्यास्य बभूव हा ॥ सरोनाम्नां च किं मूलं भावनारायणो हरिः । किमर्थमत्र स्थितवानयं केन प्रतिष्ठितः ॥. एतदाचक्ष्व सर्व मे श्रोतुं कौतूहलं मुने ।
वसिष्ठः-. राजन् सम्यक् त्वया पृष्टं शौनकाय महात्मने । गतेन नैमिशारण्यमगस्त्येनेदमीरितम् ।। तदेवाहं प्रवक्ष्यामि समाहितमनाः शृणु ।
अथासीद्गोमतीतीरे नैमिशारण्यमद्भुतम् ॥ महर्षिजनसंघुष्टं फलपुष्पद्रुमाचितम् ॥ फलखादनतुष्टानां विहगानां रुतैर्वृतम् ।
