________________ Shri Mahavir Jain Aradhana Kendra www.kobatirth.org Acharya Shri Kailassagarsuri Gyanmandir (XLIT) writes "Smsti Darpana" has been found in Orissa written by Yogi Praharaja, a scion of an influential family of Bralmins, who for many generations were the spiritual guides of the Rajas of Orissa. They wanted to have a standard Smsti of their own and got this work written. The writer does not seem to be old as he followed Gadadhar (82) A complete nanuscript of this work called a fea Faia was examined by me ill 1944-45 while I was the Archaeo o rist of the Ex-Kalahandi &tate, the last chapter of which contains a short history of the Raj-family of Nandapur. From the last verse of his other work called a 1972 manuscript of which is preserved in our museum, it is known that Yogi was the son of Nilakantha Praharaja who was the Tx or preceptor of the chief queen of Vikrama Deva, King of Nandapura e. g. 47777a: agtrainfattia: state497: gut: 1 श्रीमन्नन्दपुरेशविक्रमनृपश्रीपट टराशी गुमः // At the end of each of the five prakasas to which the work is diviled the author speaks of himself thus fa oft glITEETTH AFTTa farfurii aur 719 ....... #19T: 1 From the verse quoted above it is known that Yogi l'ralaraja flourished in the kingdom of Nandapura when Vikraina Deva was its ruler. The present district of Koraput in Orissa comprises the northern part of the old Nandapira kingdom which was very powerful and extensive during the 15th and 10th centuries. It was so called after the name of its capital town Nandapur' which is now found in ruins in the Nardpur P. S. of the Koraput distri :t. It was afterwards called Jeypore State, when its capital was shifted from old Nandapur to the present town of Jeypore. The 'Vikramanrpa' of the above verse is the first king of that bame who miled from 1758-1781 A. D. This Yogi Praharaja who flourished in the middle cf the 18th century borrowed from the works of Gadsdhara Rajaguru as pointed out by H. P. Sastri.
