________________ Shri Mahavir Jain Aradhana Kendra www.kobatirth.org Acharya Shri Kailassagarsuri Gyanmandir Second regnal year of King Gopinatha who was * undoubtedly the Kint of Khurda of that name, ruling from 1718 to 1725 A, D, fell in 1719 A. D. This provides the latest limit for fixing the date of Visvanatha, who may tentatively be placed in the 17th century. Divyasim ha Mahapatra, who flourished in the second half of the 17th century refers to Vissvanatha Misra with respect as faggato FATT: at one place of his work IGIT: which is not yet published. It may be mentioned in this connestion that Visvanatha does not refer to the Great Narasimha Vajapeyi or any of his works in his fraait ata which might be due to the fact of his being almost a contemporary of Narasimha. But Visvanatha Leing a predecessor of Divyasimha Mahapatra may definitely be placed in the first half of the 17th century. Though the work is small, its author has quoted from the works of great writers like Midhavachirya (40 time), Krtyakalpataru (23 times) and Kaladarsa (27 times) and mostly refers to the following important Smrti works written in Orissa e. g, TATA=TATE (quoted 3 times), 7F Tara, falt a, gat (8 times) to make his work authoritative. The importance of this work lies in its popularity, which it did not lose inspite of compilation of voluminous works on different branches of Dharmasastra by the famous Gadadhara Rajaguri (C 1700-1750 A, D.) of the subsequent peri:d. VIPRA MISRA: Vipra Migra is well-known for his wors called 'IGIEIT & manuscript of which was noticed by Sri Kulamani Misra, professor, Sadisiva Sanskrit College, Puri (67). Vipra Misra begins this work after paying his respects to his preceptor Narasimha Misra, who may tentatively be identified with the great Narasimha Vajapeyi. But he can definitely be placed in the first half of the 17th century as he is found quoted five times in the trefit by Divyasim va Mahapatra of the second half of same century. DIVYASIMHA MAHAPATRA: Divyasinha is well-known for his two works called 'I T ' and f palmleaf manuscripts of which are found all over Orissa, (67) The Chaturanga, an Oriya monthly Vol, II No. 5. 1947, p. 223, -- For Private and Personal Use Only
