Atman and Moka
powers of the Praksti and they act like the strands of a string. The first guņa is the Sattva which is responsible for the causation of enlightenment, knowledge, experience of pleasure and happiness. It stands for light and sweetness. The second quality is the Rajas, which acts as the source of all movement and activity, and it produces pain. It generates restless activity, uneasiness, dissatisfaction and feverish strifes. The third guņa is the Tamas, which produces ignorance, indolence, apathy, sloth, indiffer. ence, heaviness, lethargy, and acts as an impediment to quick activity, understanding and illumination. In the first state of Praksti, these qualities lie in the state of a perfect equilibrium, which when disturbed, starts an overhauling movement. Somehow the equilibrium of these three qualities happens to be disturbed in a mysterious way by the mere vicinity of the Purusa. The Puruşa is supposed to induce movement in the Praksti in an inexplicable way, and when the original equilibrium is disturbed Praksti starts its evolution of the whole world. According to the Samakhya system, the effect is only an express manifestation of the cause; the world is only potentially existent in the unmanifest state of the Prakrti, and it gets actualised or articulately formed in its, perfect form in course of its evolutionary process which is only initiated by the mere presence of the Puruşa.
After the first shock is received, thé Prakrti automatically starts its activity and, begins to gradually evolve the twenty-four products out of it.
