In particular I have to thank Dr. V. S. Sukthankar, M.A., Ph.D. the former Secretary of the Institute and Superintendent of the Mss. Department, Dr. S. K. Dandekar, M.A., Ph.D. the present Secretary of the Institute, who in their several capacities have encouraged me to expedite the work of the Descriptive Catalogue of Government Mss. I have also to thank my special cataloguing assistants Mr. M. M. Patkar, B.A. and S. N. Savadi, B.A., whose work in connection with the published and unpublished volumes on which they have been working for the last five years has been found to be entirely satisfactory. They have also helped me in meeting the needs of outside scholars with regard to copies of Manuscripts from the Govt. Mss. library and in sending information regarding the Mss. at the Institute for the use of the Editor of the New Catalogus Catalogorum of Sanskrit and allied Works and Authors undertaken by the University of Madras some years ago. Finally I have to thank the entire office staff of the Institute including Mr. Y. R. Junnarkar, B.A. the Assistant Curator and Mr. G. N.
