The work deals with Vaisnava ritual both optional and compulsory. In the Asiatic Society Cat. (referred to below), a complete list of contents is given. In the räjaprasasti given at the beginning of our work, we find the following list of ancestors of Jayasimha :
(1) Mugdhasimha (not Mumbasimha as in the Asiatic Society Cat.), (2) Madanasimha, (3) Atmasimha, (4) Asimasimha, (5) Kusumasimha, 16) Krşnasimha, (7) Deva simhz, (8) Lakşmanasimha, (9) Kaivartasimha, (10) Amarasimha, (11) Vikramasiṁha, (12) Tejaḥsimha, and (13) Saktisimha. If we compare this list with that given in the Rūpanārāyaniya (paddhati) No. 240 of 188182 we find that they are identical. According to Rūpao, the name of Saktisiṁha's son is Udayasiṁha. According to this ms. the name of Saktisimha's son is Jayasimha. Hence, either Jayasimha and Udayasimha are identical or brothers. At the present state of our knowledge nothing more can be said. Haraprasad Sāstri identifies the town Gorakşapura where Jayasimha reigned, with modern Gorakhpur and thinks him to be a descendant of some Brahma-k satriya Karnāṭaki leaders who came wit). Gängeya Cedi to Goraksa pura. He further thinks that Jayasimha took part in the rebellion of Khwājā Jahan against Mahmud Tughlak in 1342 A.D. The ms. noted in the Asiatic Society Cat, bears Sam. 1526 (A.D. 1470); the work might have been compos
ed in the 14th century A.D. Age.--Sam. 1827. Author Jaya'simha.
