The work deals with funeral rites according to Aśvalāyana. For a detailed information about the author, see Kane: Hist. Dh. I, pp. 419-421. In the colophon of the Ms. described in Mitra's Notices I, No. 195, the work is alleged to form a part of Prayogaratna. But, in the printed
editions of the Prayogar atna, we do not find our text. Age.-Sam. 1744. Author:- Narayanabhatta of Benaras, son of Ramesvarabhatta. Begins.- fol. 1b.
भीगणेशाय नमः॥ भट्टरामेश्वरसुतो भट्टनारायणः सुधीः ।
नस्वा शिवौ संविचार्य तनुतेऽन्त्येष्टिपद्धति ॥ आसनमरणं पित्रादिकं पुत्रादिस्तीर्थेषु नीत्वा प्रायश्चित्तं कारयेत् । तदीयं स्वयं वा कुर्यात् । तच्च षडद व्यवं सार्थी वा यथाशक्ति सुवर्णादि
