pretation, Mahavira's grhavāsa, his twelve years' life as an ascetic and his activities for about 30 years after he became omniscient. The description of the biography of Mahāvīra given here reminds one of the Lalitavistarä, a Buddhistic work.
In Sthavirāvali, we find a list of ganas (schools), their Sakhās (branches) and the ganadharas ( heads of schools ).
The names given in this list are borne out by the inscriptions from the Ist century A. D.
Sāmācāri, a code of rules for asceticism deals with rules and regulations pertaining to pajjusaņa. This section is looked upon by Western scholars as the oldest nucleus, and they opine: that Bhadrabāhu does not seem to be the author of all the three sections which have been united to
forin a whole in the Kalpasūtra. Begins.-- (text) fol. I" ए ६० ॥ अहं ॥

वंदामि अज्जधम्म च सुवय(सुब्वयं) सीललद्धिसंपन्न जस्स य निक्खमणे देवो छत्तं वरमुत्तमं वहइ ७ हत्थं 'कासव'गुत्त: This Ms. ends thus abruptly.
