INTRODUCTION
The Pada candrika of Brhaspati, surnamed Rayamukutamani and generally known as Ra y amu kuta, composed in A.C. 1431*, is a work of considerable merit, based on sixteen earlier commentaries. The author, a native of Ra dhá in Bengal, was son of Govinda and father of Visrama, Rama, and others." A list of authorities quoted by Rayamukuța, numbering about 270 is given by Aufrecht in ZDMG, 28, 109-118.
The
Vyakhyasudha
or Rama śram i of Bhānujīdīkṣita, son of Bhaṭṭojidikṣita, was composed in the 17th century at the request of Kirtisimha of the Vaghela dynasty, king of Mahid hara." It is copious and learned, always supporting and supplementing the text with quotions from other lexicons.
The A marakoṣapañjika or Padarthakaumudi of Narayana sarm a n was composed in 1619," and the Trikanda viveka of Ramanatha Vidyavacaspati probably in 1633.' The latter mentions a large number of authorities in the introductory verses.
