SINGHI JAIN SERIES
SOME APPRECIATIONS
(1) From the late Poet, RABINDRA NATH TAGORE.
6 Uttarayan'' Santiniketan, Bengal
1st August, 1935.
Jinavijaya Muni, during the period he was serving here as Singhi Professor of Jaina Culture at Visva-Bharati carried on valuable work in tracing out and editing some of the most important religious books of the Jainas. They have just been published as the first three volumes of the Singhi Jaina Series and we hope some more will follow. It will be difficut to overestimate the importance of these publications, as they reveal an hitherto undisclosed chapter of our cultural history. Most of the sacred books of the Jainas are securely locked up in monasteries scattered all over the country and access to them is extremely difficult, if not absolutely impossible. By his work, Prof. Jinavijaya Muni has rendered a considerable service to the cause of scientific research in the field and I am sure, his books will attract the attention of scholars, they so preeminently deserve.
