of them, and a very learned introduction, running into 87 pages and yet incomplete, is completed in the present volume. This is, no doubt, a monumental work, an authentic reference book, extremely useful not only for the students of Jainology, but also those of Indology and of philosophy, eastern and western, in general, All those associated with the initiation, preparation and publication of the work: Pt. Jugal Kishore Mukhtar, B. Chhote Lal Jain, Sahu Shanti Prasad Jain, the authorities of the Vir Seva Mandir, and Pt. Balchandra Shastri, its very competent editor, deserve our warm thanks. Unfortunately, B. Chhote Lal Jain (died 1966) and Mukhtar Sahib (died 1968) could not live to see it in print, and Sahu Shanti Prasad (died 1977) could have the satisfaction of seeing only the first two volumes published. We gratefully cherish the memory of all these noble servers of the cause of Jainology.
